Hey hey y’all! Happy Friday.
Today’s five fitness Friday Favorites (Facts) is about our beloved metabolism. My number one advice for taking care of your metabolism is to treat your body right. Feed it well, move often, sleep, rest, and recover. Don’t deprive yourself of your favorite foods, just eat them moderately. When you go on a fat loss journey, do it slowly, set your caloric deficit up modestly, and don’t over exercise. If you do those things, you’ll be more likely to lose the weight and keep it off.
1. You must eat – eat to lose. The metabolism thrives on food. When you don’t feed it, or should I say feed yourself, the metabolism slows down and begins to store or/and hold on to the fat that you have been trying to lose. Nurture your metabolism, treat it right, and it will treat you right!
2. The metabolism doesn’t care if you eat every 2-3 hours or eat 3 or 6 meals. All it cares is that you are eating.
Fact – meal frequency or timing has little to do with stoking the metabolism. It really comes down to preference – how many meals do you like? I like 4 or 5, and you might like 3 or even 6. Just depends on the person.
3. Muscle = Metabolism – say what? Yes, muscle equals Metabolism. The metabolism thrives on it. Muscle raises your metabolism. Want to worry about something stoking the fire so to speak, then gain some muscle. So, build muscle to keep the metabolism running optimally.
4. If you’re in a caloric deficit, it is very wise to lose slowly so that you can hold on to your hard earned muscle during the cutting phase. Losing muscle means a slower metabolism. When your metabolism is slow, it will be harder to lose weight.
5.Diets make your metabolism inefficient. Every single time you embark on a diet, your metabolism takes a hit. Ever notice every time you go on a diet you have to get more and more extreme to see results? It’s because of your slower metabolism from dieting and losing the same weight over and over, coupled with the loss of muscle.
Again, muscle is so important to hold on to. As we age our muscle decreases as it is, don’t help it along by dieting it all off.
Lastly, if you have some fat to lose, do it slowly. Nurture your metabolism like it’s your child. Take care of You, so that your fat loss is maintainable.
